new!  Operation Blessing: Dental volunteers are needed immediately to serve in Operation Blessing's dental field clinic that provides FREE care to residents resettling in New Orleans.  The city of New Orleans has requested that Operation Blessing open a field clinic for the next six months to help with the increase of dental emergencies.  The field dental clinic is located in St. Bernard Parish and contains all the needed equipment.  Operation Blessing offers free accommodations and food to all dental volunteers. Contact Scott Hill at 757-226-3858 or scott.hill@ob.org to volunteer or receive more information.

If you have any supplies for Hurricane Katrina evacuees, please contact Christy Harrison at PRC Compassion (Pastor Resource Council) at 225-615-0535 or 225-408-3380.  They have warehouse and loading dock facilities.

Other health care professionals volunteer contacts would be: 1-877-923-2114. This rings to a sort of clearinghouse for health care professionals who want to volunteer their services. The United Way will then direct providers to wherever they are needed. The Red Cross and the LA Department of Health and Hospitals has referred us to another volunteer collection location for health care professionals. Go to http://www.tsged.com/Katrina_aid.htm and click on the link in the text to fill out a form that includes health care professionals specialties and availability. If you need assistance or further direction please contact their Hurricane Hotline at 800-893-9698 x 1298 or e-mail: barry_smith@tsged.com. The CDC has also been collecting information on medical professionals who are willing to volunteer. They can be contacted at http://www.bt.cdc.gov/disasters/hurricanes/hhs_announcement.asp.

In response to the thousands displaced by Hurricane Katrina, the ADA Foundation would like to support dentists and their families through this Help-a-Dentist program. It is designed to match the dentists in need with those who are willing to provide housing or other assistance. A list will be provided to participants, so individuals can make connections for themselves directly.  If you are a dentist willing to provide housing or other assistance, please fill out and return the Help a Dentist Offering Assistance form from the ADA website and return to the ADA Foundation.

Donating Dental Equipment
If you have dental equipment and/or supplies to donate to the ADA Foundation for use in the hurricane disaster response for Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas, read the following information. The ADA has been working with the dental societies, and have established a secure location and system for receipt and distribution of large equipment, such as dental chairs and compressors, as well as smaller dental equipment and supplies to dentists whose offices were severely damaged.  If you would like to make a charitable donation of equipment and/or supplies to assist dentists trying to recover from the severe damage to their dental offices by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, please follow the instructions by clicking here.

new!  You can also go to http://lovelaceandassociates.com/v-web/bulletin/bb/index.php?c=3 and register what equipment you would like to donate to the relief efforts. This site enables dentists to look and see what is available to them.

DMORT Needs Records From Affected Areas
Because of the condition of bodies found in the Hurricane Katrina affected areas, DMORT, the agency of FEMA responsible for identifying bodies, is in desperate need of dental records, particularly x-rays. DMORT will be sending letters to dentists who have practices in the affected areas that will list specific victims’ names, so please make sure to update your temporary address with the LDA at info@ladental.org. DMORT realizes that many offices are flooded, but victims’ records in any condition should be submitted. Many dentists have suffered extreme losses, but it would be greatly appreciated if dentists would assist in helping people identify their loved ones. There is a HIPAA Regulation Exception that permits the release of health information (medical and dental records) to a coroner or medical examiner for the identification of a deceased. For more information or to submit records, call (225) 319-0254, fax (225) 319-0159, or mail to DMORT Family Assistance, c/o Holiday Inn Select Executive Center, 4782 Constitution Ave., Baton Rouge, La. 70808.
