How can you save money on C.E. for yourselves and/or your staff?

Have you heard that the Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC) can help you save some BIG BUCKS in 2019 on continuing education from the LDA? If you are a W-2 employee, your employer can be reimbursed for the professional development you take with the LDA when it is held in Louisiana. The LWC will only reimburse the registration fees for employee dentists, hygienists or (other) staff.  They will not reimburse for the employer/practice owner’s registration nor for any late fees. You or your employer must apply for the reimbursement 30-45 days BEFORE taking the course. You are allowed to register for the course during the application process with LWC. Approval from the Workforce Commission must be granted before the course is completed. You will have to turn in your course completion sheet to complete the process and be granted your reimbursement.

The LDA courses that you can apply for reimbursement from the LWC are:

New State Requirements for Those Writing Prescriptions for Schedule Drugs
There is a NEW State mandate requiring 3 hours of opioid prescribing and abuse awareness C.E. for those doctors holding a controlled dangerous substance license permitting them to prescribe schedule drugs. The 3-hour course must be completed sometime between Aug. 1, 2017, and the first time you renew your license after Jan. 1, 2018, and must include drug diversion training, best practice prescribing of controlled substances, appropriate treatment for addiction, and any other matters regarding the prescribing of controlled dangerous substances that are deemed appropriate by the board. According to current law, you will never have to take the course again.

C.E. Requirements Change
DENTISTS: The LA State Board of Dentistry has changed C.E. requirements for dentists as of Jan. 1, 2018. If your license renewed in December 2017, you will only be required to have 30 hours of C.E. every 2 years, however, all 30 hours must be clinical. Further, 20 of the 30 hours must be obtained in person (not online C.E.). If your license renews in December 2018, you can choose whether or not to submit the traditional 40 hours that includes practice management or you can select the newer requirement and log in 30 hours of all clinical C.E.

HYGIENISTS: As of Jan. 1, 2018, hygienists need 20 hours, all of it clinical. However, 12 of it must be personally attended.
