Healthy
Children, Healthy Lifestyles 2009
Since 2007, Louisiana Primary Care Association (LPCA) has served
as a host site for Henry Schein, Inc.'s Healthy Children, Healthy Lifestyles
Access to Care Screening Program through Henry Schein Cares, the corporation’s
global responsibility program. Louisiana
was one of five host sites for the program which served over 2,000 youth that
year.
Henry
Schein Cares strives to address the disparities in care between the affluent
and those with fewer resources, and develop solutions that meet the needs of
community-based healthcare professionals. The Healthy Children, Healthy Lifestyles Program is one such
initiative in that area.
This year LPCA will be partnering with the Children’s
Coalition for Northeast Louisiana to host the “Healthy Children, Healthy
Lifestyles Access to Care Screening Program” during their annual “Start School
Right Children’s Resources and Health Fair.”
Youth participants will have the opportunity to be screened for medical
conditions and risk factors such as asthma, diabetes, hypertension, obesity,
oral health, and vision. Healthcare volunteers will also educate the children
and their parents about ways to prevent and treat these health conditions, and
assist them in locating a primary care provider where they can receive
consistent care if they do not have a regular "medical home."
Healthy Children, Healthy Lifestyles 2009 is scheduled to
take place at the Monroe Civic Center, on Saturday, August 8, 2009. Doors open at 10am.
