Dental care is important to your child's health & happiness!

Regular dental exams and cleanings are essential to maintaining your child's health. Tooth decay is the most common chronic disease of childhood, and it is totally preventable! It is strongly encouraged that ALL parents bring their child to the dentist for regular preventive care.

If your child has NOT seen a dentist within the past 6 months, please schedule an appointment TODAY! If your child already has a dentist and has been seen for dental services recently, please have your dentist complete the School Dental Health Record form, below, and fax it back to your school.

There are several options for dental care at no cost or reduced cost for qualifying children. Find out more information on Medicaid, LaCHIP, Tooth Bus and LSU School of Dentistry below

Your child's school, the Louisiana Dental Association and the Department of Health and Hospitals have partnered to make the process of getting your child dental care easier.

Remember, without regular dental care, your child's mouth could become unhealthy. That could affect his or her general health. It could also affect your child's appearance and, in turn, his or her sense of self-worth. Don't gamble with your child's oral health, give him or her the same high-quality care other kids get!

If your child is covered by Medicaid, most dental services are covered at NO COST to you! If you are unsure if your child is Medicaid-eligible and would qualify for these dental services, visit the Louisiana Medicaid Web site at www.medicaid.dhh.louisiana.gov or call 1-888-342-6207.

LaCHIP is a children's health insurance program for working families with the same benefits as Medicaid. Dentists who accept Medicaid also accept LaCHIP. To find out if your child qualifies, visit the LaCHIP Web site at http://www.lachip.org or call 1-877-252-2447.

For those who qualify, the Children's Hospital Tooth Bus provides no-cost comprehensive dental services on a continuous basis at several locations throughout the New Orleans area. To find out if your child qualifies, visit the Children's Hospital Web site at www.chnola.org/TheToothBus, or call 34BRUSH.

Comprehensive pediatric dental services are provided at reduced fees at the LSU School of Dentistry, Department of Pediatric Dentistry. There are no income requirements to become a patient at the dental school. You just need to be a Louisiana resident. For more information, call 941-8201 (ages 0-6 yrs.) or 941-8196 (ages 7-13 yrs.)
