Act 450 of the 2021 Regular Session provides comprehensive dental care coverage for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) through Louisiana's Developmental Disabilities Waiver Programs. State funding has been received for implementation and the new coverage will begin on July 1, 2022. According to what we are being told by the LA Department of Health (LDH), if you are currently a credentialed Medicaid provider, you will be able to begin seeing these patients as of July 1.
HB 55, now Act 366 of the 2022 Regular Session, adds certain I/DD adults residing in intermediate care facilities and group homes as recipients of Medicaid coverage for dental care. Again, according to LDH, this second group of qualifying adults will have coverage beginning Jan. 1, 2023.
The LDA is working with LDH and the Louisiana Dental Task Force to provide training to those interested dentists who would like the additional training. The LDA’s Last Chance Seminar December 9 in Baton Rouge will provide additional continuing education from Dr. Jacob Dent related to this topic. The LDH created a flyer for providers seeking to enroll in the Adult Waiver program. View the flyer by clicking here.
