This seminar helps provide last minute continuing education hours to dentists and their staff. Typically, this 7 hour clinical course is held the second Friday in December. It’s one of our most well attended events each year.

Course Title:
Common Cents! Everything You Need to Know About Dental Care for Adults with IDD

Course Outline:

1. Most common intellectual disabilities and their dental concerns
2. How to efficiently treat IDD adult patients(scheduling)
3. Overcoming compliance and behavior issues in the office and at home
4. Dental materials and techniques for non invasive dental treatment
5. Medicaid- program overview(pros/cons) and how to make it profitable for the private practice dentist.

Course Description:
People with intellectual or developmental disabilities are often faced with numerous challenges and barriers when it comes to their dental care. This class will educate you on the most common disabilities and their associates dental concerns.  Students will learn best practices in modern behavior management techniques, non invasive dental procedures and materials, and how to educate parents and caregivers for efficient home care.  Students will receive current information and training on how treating patients with IDD can help build their practices and what programs like Medicaid and the new adult waiver programs in Louisiana can do to increase access to care.  

Speaker Information:

Dr. Jacob DentDr. Jacob Dent graduated from Louisiana State University School of Dentistry in 2003 and is a multiple-office owner dentist supported by Pacific Dental Services®. In his 10+ years of practice experience, Dr. Dent has been recognized as a subject matter expert in special needs dentistry. He has had numerous speaking engagements, published articles, and more.

Refunds and Cancellation Requests
To receive a refund, all requests must be postmarked or sent no later than the day before each meeting begins. You may send your request to jeanne@ladental.org or fax to (225) 926-1886. Registration and course cancellation/refund requests must be in writing.

Cancellation Requests prior to Early Registration Deadline (11/18 or before)
Refund requests for registration will be granted a full refund, less a $15 processing fee. The request must be received on or before each meeting's early registration date. Exceptions will not apply. 

Cancellation Requests between Early Registration Deadline and the day before your meeting begins (11/19-12/8)
Refund requests for registration fees will be granted a 50% refund less a $15 processing fee. The request must be received no later than 4 p.m. on the day before your meeting begins. Exceptions will not apply. 

No cancellation requests or refund requests will be accepted or granted after the scheduled start to any meeting. This includes cancellations due to illness, late arrivals, weather, parking difficulties, or any other reasons.
