Event Description:
This rotating conference is held over the Mardi Gras holiday each year. We rotate between Walt Disney World and a ski destination. Both trips have 3 day morning lectures so you can enjoy some vacation time after learning. With hotels offering our group such fantastic rates, these trips are a no brainer for your whole family to attend. This is also a great opportunity for a tax-deduction.

Speaker: Dr. Pedro Cuartas
Title: The Ever-Growing Field of Dental Sleep Medicine: An Overview
Course Description: The course will focus on the negative impact of Sleep Disordered Breathing on health and quality of life and our role as dental professionals in screening for Sleep Disorder Breathing. We will address how to communicate health risks of untreated Sleep Disordered Breathing to patients, who to refer to, and learn about Sleep Testing 101... physician diagnosis. We will have a brief overview of all contemporary treatment options and the dentist's role in that process.
Course Objectives:

1. Attain an understanding of Sleep Disordered Breathing and its negative effect on Health and Quality of Life

2. Identify Signs and Symptoms of Sleep Disordered Breathing on dental patients

3. Gain a basic understanding of Home Sleep Testing, who is ordering it, and how to diagnose

4. Learn to discuss confidently all current treatment options available with patients for Sleep Disordered Breathing

5. Understand the role dental professionals have in treating and following up with Dental Sleep Medicine Patients.

Title: Let's Get Wild! Desensitization at Animal Kingdom.

Course Description:
Disney's Animal Kingdom is home to animals large and small from all over the world. Like our patients, these animals require routine dental care to ensure their overall health. Zookeepers do this through desensitization training. This course will discuss the benefits of desensitization vs sedation for the animals as well as your patients, and show practical examples of how to do this in your practice.

Title: The Disney Experience: How Disney adapted for IDD guests

Course Description:
Disney World is known as the happiest place on earth. But for guests with IDD, Disney can be a sensory explosion. This course will highlight how Disney adapts its "neurotypical" experience for all guests with cognitive and sensory disabilities in its parks, and how you can adapt your office environment and dental experience to do the same for your patients.

Speaker Biographies

Dr. Pedro Cuartas
Dr. Cuartas was born and raised in New Orleans, LA. In 1996, he received his B.S. degree from Loyola University and graduated from Louisiana State University School of Dentistry in 2000. In addition to his general dental practice, he has also developed a special interest in sleep apnea, sleep breathing disorders, TMJ, orthodontics, and implant dentistry. Dr. Cuartas began his professional involvement with Dental Sleep Mentorship since 2007 and focuses on creating opportunities that allow more individuals to restore their health and quality of life. We provide practical dental sleep medicine training for dentists, and with our local physicians' help, we are increasing the number of people screened, and ultimately treated for OSA while getting patients involved throughout the entire process for improved long term success.
Dr. Jacob Dent
Dr. Jacob Dent graduated from Louisiana State University School of Dentistry in 2003 and is a multiple-office owner dentist supported by Pacific Dental Services®. In his 10+ years of practice experience, Dr. Dent has been recognized as a subject matter expert in special needs dentistry. He has had numerous speaking engagements, published articles, and more.
