New Special Needs Pediatric Dental Incentive Program: What You Need to Know

Feb 6, 2026

Through the advocacy efforts of the LDA, Dr. Don Donaldson, and the LDA Medicaid Task Force, we secured the funding for the Special Needs Dental Incentive Program in the 2025 Louisiana legislative session.

The Special Needs Pediatric Dental Incentive Program for dental Medicaid providers began Jan. 1, 2026. The first goal of the program is to expand access to care by growing the number of providers trained to treat members with special needs.

Both dental Medicaid managed care companies (MCNA and DentaQuest) are participating in the program. Ultimately, the goals of the program will include training and education and an increase in acceptance of special needs patients seen within the dental office.

DentaQuest will be participating in the program and will release similar goals in the near future. Watch your DentaQuest portal and future LDA emails for updates.

Benefit

The two dental benefit management companies will each reimburse each practice $1,000 for every group dental Medicaid provider who completes qualifying special needs–related continuing education (C.E.) during the measurement period or within the prior 24 months. This means, if you qualify, you could receive $2,000 during this measurement period.
